Charles J. Dougiello
September 4th 1922 - December 22nd 2011

Charles J. Dougiello (Muttsy) age 89 of Bridgeport, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Charles and Nellie Ross Dougiello, A life long resident of Bridgeport, he was a graduate of the Junior College located on Congress St presently the University of Bridgeport and the Renaurd School of Embalming and Mortuary Science. Having the distinction of being the youngest embalmer in the state, he and his brother Edmund and father established the Charles Dougiello & Sons Funeral Home located in Bridgeport and Fairfield. After many years, he and his brother separately operated there own funeral homes.
A seeker of higher education he had taken programs in the Dale Carnegie Institute on “How to win friends and influence people,” so dedicated to this program, he became one of its instructors. Pursuing a life of civic duty, he was appointed Fire Commissioner in the 1970’s under the administration of Mayors Curran, Panuzio and Mandanici, while on the board of the Mandanici administration he was appointed Vice President. His later years, he was appointed Police Commissioner under the Bucci administration. In 1985, he and his sons founded the Commerce Hill Funeral Home and the acquired the Frank A. Radozycki Funeral Home serving the, Polish, Lithuanian and Christian Orthodox communities. Always dedicated to his business and the public he never left a task undone. A funeral director and embalmer for over 65 years, he was always concerned to assure that his clients have the most dignified and respected funerals irregardless of their financial status. His honorable, loving, sensitive qualities, tall stature, his blue eyes and smile captured the hearts of many especially his granddaughter Ann May Niestemski Arsenault who was his constant companion, best friend and devoted care giver after the death of his wife Ann. Charles was a parishioner of St. Michael the Archangel Church and its Holy Name Society as well as St. George RC Church and its Lithuanian young men's society.
Survivors include his sons Charles W. and Ronald J. Dougiello, his devoted daughter Charlene Ann “Charle” whom he resided with for the past several years. His sister Ann Frances Eckert and Son-In-Law Francis L. Niestemski. 7 grandchildren, Charles IV, David, Leslie, Francis Jr. Carla, Ann May and Joanna and a great-granddaughter Linley Rose, several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by the love of his life, his wife of 56 years the late Ann May (Blaze) Dougiello, (his adorning jitter-bug dance partner) and his brother Edmund W. Dougiello and sister Florence Bierko.
