Obituary: Charles Poulos

Charles Poulos

April 09, 1917 - January 12, 2010

Charles J. Poulos, age 92 of Bridgeport, entered into eternal life on January 12, 2010. Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Nettie (Giatas) of 63 years; his devoted and loving daughter, Andrea of Bridgeport; and his cherished grand-daughters, Stefanie of Bridgeport, and Kristin and her husband, Stan of Trumbull; and his precious great-granddaughter, Hailey. Charlie was born in Bridgeport on April 9, 1917 to the late George and Andromachi (Reppas) Poulos. He grew up in Sunnyside, N.Y. before moving back to Bridgeport in his earlier years. Charlie served in the military for four years with the Company C 727th Engineer Railroad Operation battalion. He was awarded numerous medals and ribbons for his outstanding service. His love for the railroad shone through when he was employed by the New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad as a brakeman and conductor in his earlier years. After the service, Charlie went on to work for the United Illuminating Company for 34 years as a supervisor in the control room. In his spare time, he worked for the Connecticut Limousine for 15 years. Throughout his life, Charles was very dedicated to his church and community. Charlie had a deep passion for watches, trains and politics. However, his pride and joy was his family and the unconditional love and bond he shared with his wife, daughter and granddaughters will live on. His legacy will be carried on through "his girls." His memory will be eternal.
