Gino L. Don

Gino Don, age 82 of Bridgeport, beloved husband of 39 years to the late Louise Zirpolo Don, died peacefully on Sunday, February 28, 2010. Born in Union City, N.J., he was the son of the late Luigi and Gilde Forte Don. A resident of Bridgeport for the past 56 years, he was a retired tile setter, having worked with Benny Tile and the International Union of Brick Layers and Allied Craft Workers of Union Local #1C. A veteran of World War II, he served his country in the Army. A gifted handyman, he was always ready, willing and able to help all especially his family whom he loved dearly. An active outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, swimming in Lake Forest, watching the Yankees and playing pinochle with his dear friends, Pat and Dom Palumbo. Survivors include his children, Gilda Gelsi of Trumbull, Louis Don and wife, Mary of Virginia, Robert Don and wife, Dolores of Milford; companion and dear friend of 16 years, Marie Bird of Bridgeport; nine grandchildren, Robert J. Don, Gennaro Gelsi, Justin Don, Gino Gelsi, Angela Don, Anthony Gelsi, Christopher, Nathan and Kimberly Don; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Bruno Don.

Funeral Information

Friends are invited to go DIRECTLY to St. Andrew's Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated followed by entombment with full military honors in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main Street, Bridgeport.
