Obituary for Harriet Ganatsiou

Harriet Ganatsiou, 92 years old, passed away peacefully in Raleigh, North Carolina on December 26, 2020.
She was born on December 25, 1928 in Syracuse, New York, to James and Bessie Kambas. After studying Music and graduating in 1952 from Syracuse University, she was married to Thomas J. Ganatsiou, a native of Bridgeport, CT who also was a student at Syracuse. The couple settled in Trumbull Connecticut. Prior to starting a family, Harriet continued her vocal training in New York City and worked locally as a choirmaster.

Harriet was a homemaker for many years. She enjoyed raising her children and especially cherished the beautiful Connecticut home that her husband designed and built. In addition to being a gifted singer, she was exceptionally artistic and a consummate cook and hostess.

Prior to retiring, Tom and Harriet moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, along with their two daughters, where they enjoyed new friendships and fellowship within their neighborhood and Church community. Most recently Harriet moved to Raleigh North Carolina to live near her children and caregivers.

She is survived by her daughters, Viola Weber (and her spouse Scott Weber) and Betsy Higgins (and her spouse Kenneth Higgins); her grandchildren, Michael and Matthew Higgins; her brother-in-law, Christopher Tomasides; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Thomas, and her immediate family including her parents and sisters, Irene Taseos, Margaret Kambas, and Marie Tomasides.

Services will be private, however, the funeral will be live streamed on Monday, January 4th beginning at 11:25 am (EST) through

A Graveside Service will take place on Thursday, January 7, 2020 at 12 noon in Lakeview Cemetery, 885 Boston Ave., Bridgeport, CT next to her husband Tom.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Bridgeport in Memory of Harriet
