Norma Laffitte, 79, passed away on April 23, 2020 after battling a long illness. She was born in Camuy, Puerto Rico but grew up all her life in Bridgeport.

Norma practiced and loved dance as a child and throughout all her life. Always vivacious and full of joy. She would light up a room with her vibrant personality and brought laughter wherever she went. She was an extraordinary woman and loved by all.

A young single mom, both mother an father to her beloved three little girls. Norma always put her daughters first, providing them with everything they needed. With perseverance and independence she raised her daughters while working during the day and going to school at night. She was fierce and determined. Working very hard she was able to reach her goal and become a teacher. She began her career in the Bridgeport Public School system and later retired from the New Haven Public School system spanning over 25 years. Loved and respected by her colleagues, students and their families. She often ran into her former students and was always overcome with their appreciation of her as a teacher and how much she impacted their lives.

She traveled the world, going to Hawaii, Israel, Egypt, Africa, France, Italy, Spain, Venezuela, and Cuba, just to name a few. Dance, music and travel were her joys, but nothing topped the love of being a mother and grandmother. Her daughters were the loves and pride of her legacy.

Norma leaves behind her adoring daughters, Lisette (Paul) Perrotti, Lisa (Raymond) Sherwood, and Myrka Laffitte (partner, Juan Guillen.) As well as her grandchildren, Paul, Christian, Cole, and Justin Perrotti, Raymond and Chloe Sherwood, and Daniel and Karina Guillen. Norma is predeceased by her loving parents Jose and Lydia Lugo who are embracing her now in Heaven.

No services are being held at the moment due to the current health climate. However, a celebration of her life will held at the Cuban Lyceum of Bridgeport at a future date to be announced.
