Ruth Mary Jontos Mack died on the morning of March 16, 2019 after 95 years on this earth. Ruth was born in Bridgeport to Stephen and Mary Martin Jontos on December 3, 1923. Ruth leaves 4 children, Karen Guillet of Hartford, Kenneth Mack (Judith) of Florida, Janet Fabryk (Roger) of Trumbull and Timothy Mack (Roberta) of Hamden. She loved all of her 9 grandchildren: Ryan (Kristen) Guillet, Cory (Brittany)Guillet, Meredith Mack, Joshua (Marylynn) Fabryk, Sara Fabryk (Jason) DeFilippo, Jamie Fabryk, Jessica (Ian)Mack, Daniel (Jessica) Mack, and Thomas Mack (deceased). Ruth had immense pride and joy regarding her 11 great grandchildren: Ana, Kayden & Jacob Guillet, Lily & Owen Guillet, Tatianna & Natalia Fabryk, Frankie DeFilippo, Sylvia Mack-Dudley, and Ryker & Hunter Mack. She also leaves behind several loving nieces and nephews, and Nil Guillet, father of Ryan and Cory.

Ruth graduated from Bassick High School in 1942. She was one of the first two women to work at Harvey and Lewis Opticians in the Optical Laboratory. Ruth married her high school sweetheart Joe in 1946 and they were married for 67 years until his death in 2014. Ruth and Joe moved to Trumbull in 1955 and were parishioners at St. Theresa’s Church for 56 years. After raising her four children, Ruth really dedicated much of her time and her heart to volunteering. In her early years at St. Theresa’s she taught 2nd grade CCD classes, volunteered in the children’s library, was an active member of St. Theresa’s Confraternity of the Rosary and participated in hospital visitations through the church. In later years, she was a faithful attendant in the adoration chapel, a member of the Maranatha Prayer Group, helped to run the Prayer Line, and was a member of the St. Theresa’s Senior Club. Outside of the church, she was one of the first home hospice volunteers for over 5 years, a volunteer for the children’s playroom at Bridgeport Hospital for 2 years, and a volunteer at The Jewish Home for the Elderly for many years. Ruth was recognized for her outstanding service at The Jewish Home with a Volunteer of Honor award. Her family is grateful to the staff and volunteers at JSS who became Ruth’s friends throughout her last years. The care she received from those who worked in Lipton House was unparalleled. Ruth loved God & her family, loved to read & dance, and loved fashion. She was never seen without a gorgeous outfit, coordinating jewelry and a red lip. She left an impression on everyone she met and our loss is Heaven’s gain.

Calling hours will take place on Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 4 to 7pm in the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. Bridgeport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:30am in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Theresa Church or the Jewish Senior Services in memory of Ruth. For online condolences, memorial tributes and make a donation visit us at

We were so very fortunate to have Ruth & Joe as our neighbors for twenty years. Ruth was a style icon in my eyes. Even when working in her garden she looked like she was dressed for a photo shoot. We miss her already. Much Love, to her beautiful family.
